{"id":2180,"date":"2020-10-13T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-10-13T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.albertopasca.it\/whiletrue\/?p=2180"},"modified":"2020-10-12T11:00:44","modified_gmt":"2020-10-12T09:00:44","slug":"remove-alpha-channel-from-png-images","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.albertopasca.it\/whiletrue\/remove-alpha-channel-from-png-images\/","title":{"rendered":"Remove alpha channel from png images"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every time you upload a <strong>screenshot<\/strong> on the <strong>App Store<\/strong> for a new app submission, you receive from Apple this <strong>error message<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;Images can&#8217;t contain alpha channels or transparencies.&#8221; <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is tedious if you don&#8217;t have <em>Photoshop<\/em> installed or you don&#8217;t have idea how to remove the alpha channel on the generated images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today I propose <strong>two simple methods<\/strong>, the first one is very simple and can be done without installing anything, the second one can be scripted (that I prefer).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-background has-luminous-vivid-orange-background-color has-luminous-vivid-orange-color\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Use macOS Preview<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Open your image with system <strong>Preview.app<\/strong>, open menu File and select &#8220;Duplicate&#8221;, or better use <strong>CMD + SHIFT + S<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Than save (<strong>CMD + S<\/strong>) the duplicated image and pay attention to remove the flag &#8220;<strong>Alpha channel<\/strong>&#8221; before saving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"576\" height=\"226\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.albertopasca.it\/whiletrue\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Schermata-2020-04-01-alle-11.15.51.png?resize=576%2C226&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.albertopasca.it\/whiletrue\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Schermata-2020-04-01-alle-11.15.51.png?w=576&amp;ssl=1 576w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.albertopasca.it\/whiletrue\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Schermata-2020-04-01-alle-11.15.51.png?resize=300%2C118&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Done \u221a<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-background has-luminous-vivid-orange-background-color has-luminous-vivid-orange-color\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Use ImageMagick from shell<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A little bit &#8220;complicated&#8221;, first of all, you need to install <strong>ImageMagick<\/strong> (via <strong>Brew)<\/strong>, my favorite image editing tool from the command line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Use ImageMagick<sup><a href=\"http:\/\/tarr.uspto.gov\/servlet\/tarr?regser=serial&amp;entry=78333969\">\u00ae<\/a><\/sup>&nbsp;to create, edit, compose, or convert bitmap images. It can read and write images in a variety of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/imagemagick.org\/script\/formats.php\">formats<\/a>&nbsp;(over 200) including PNG, JPEG, GIF, HEIC, TIFF,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/imagemagick.org\/script\/motion-picture.php\">DPX<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/imagemagick.org\/script\/high-dynamic-range.php\">EXR<\/a>, WebP, Postscript, PDF, and SVG.
